A new state law requires web browsers to add an opt-out signal that tells sites not to sell or share user data. Backers say it automates privacy choices and could become the new standard. Some tech firms quietly opposed the bill.

Seems to me they owe everyone a cut of the money they make by selling info. If the government or corporations are cashing in, they need to pay us as well.
See people. You don't have to submit to this data collection
Europe didn't submit. Stop shaming others for not submitting.
Can ANYONE be TRULY they don't just hide it all now even better? They'll all it do as they ever have, until they're told they shouldn't. Instead of always doing it the way as they always should.
Way. Past. Time. Next, make tech PAY US if they want our data. The default needs to be privacy. Stop making us give free labor to tech. Even the act of having to opt out is unpaid work. Especially when one must do it repeatedly.
slaves to the digital stalkers we are. – yoda
They get a whole year to figure this out? Meh, they can create this within days for all consumers to use.
Google being evil again, not surprised.
Hey what about age Verfication force everyone. How can we protect our data. We can’t use social media and other.
Was long needed.
youyube is breaking this law and has been. they will not allow me to opt out of their perverted Godless ads that glorify perversion of children and adults. youtube violates their own standards and needs to be sued.
It should’ve be implemented by 2026. 👏👏👏
It's about time. We'll, not really, if Californians have to wait a whole year. And the year in between all that data is still being shared 👎.
How about utility companies selling your water/power usage? They collect data to the second.
How about facebook messenger. People lost messeges because of this e2ee. Sue facebook and make them loose billions

It's all illegal police said get on the internet at your own safety with the tech quacks.
The internet is illegal.
Googoo has exploited the trust of the public with their monopolistic search engine cash machine.
I'm pissed off that You Tube allows so many undisclosed AI created content and even more the theft and voice of non affiliated respected FAUX hosts . Gutter companies preying on people FU TECH
California should't be allowed to make laws that are obviously the jurisdiction of the federal government. 😡
It's not just about regulation, there has to be consequence. Fines, Imprisonment should be high enough that these companies should think twice. USA does not have strong identity protection laws nor does it have punishment for violators.
pointless really. look at how facebook did it for so long. they just update the software which resets all the options and before your in there to fix it your data has been exported.
they need to make it law that no data is sent without explicit consent and that it is not dictated by the software environment but set as a security standard.
why do we need bigger data centers again?
Nice short report, which is why I use Brave browser on every device I use. Google/YouTube doesn't pay my internet bill, until then none of them should be able to do so. Reason why nobody should pay for content either, including 'regular ' cable 'TV '.
When did a big company respect their customers wishes.
We click on the button and HOPE that they respect our wish?
So in other words it is just there to make us feel better?
Lol. 2027? What's the use?
